A guided tour of Puglia to discover and admire archeological sites and historical and artistic beauties that make this amazing land even more precious.
Day 1 Airport/hotel
Arrival at the airport and transfer to your hotel in the Trani-Barletta area.
Day 2 LUCERA/TROIA
In the morning visit Lucera, described as the “city of a thousand interpretations” and full of signs of a glorious past that are still evident through the architectural testimonials of the various settlements. We’ll visit the Hohenstaufen Castel ruins and the surrounding walls, the Cathedral and the Roman Amphitheatre.
In the afternoon visit Troia, a gorgeous village overlooked by the Monti Dauni, that preserves an amazing Cathedral among the beautiful churches in Puglia. In the past Troia was an important crossroads on the Roman Via Appia-Traiana.
Day 3 SIPONTO – San Leonardo Abbey/MANFREDONIA
Visit of the ruins of the ancient Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Siponto, an archeological site revitalised today thanks to a special piece of wire mesh artwork created by young architect, Edoardo Tresoldi. Then visit another authentic artistic jem, San Lorenzo Abbey, amongst the first examples of Apulian Romanesque with Pisan influences.
In the afternoon visit Manfredonia to admire the Castle and stroll around the characteristic old town.
Day 4 CANNE DELLA BATTAGLIA/Oil Museum/CANOSA
In the morning visit the archeological area of Canne della Battaglia, ancient Medieval city whose name reminds us of the famous battle between Carthaginians and Romans. Visit an oil museum and olive oil mill.
Later visit Canosa, a real-life museum with many important archeological excavations that narrate the story of different civilizations, such as Romans, Dauni and the subsequent Norman-Swabian dominations.
Day 5 RUVO/Pottery Workshop/BITONTO
After checking out of our hotel we visit Ruvo di Puglia, ancient Roman Municipium, to admire the Cathedral and the Jatta Museum that holds precious artifacts and pottery dating back to the VII-III century B.C. Visit a pottery workshop to learn ancient craft techniques.
In the afternoon visit the beautiful Cathedral of Bitonto, considered the archetype of the amazing churches in Apulia, where there are priceless works like the ambon and the mosaics of the ancient Early Christian church. Transfer and check in at your hotel in the Savelletri area.
Day 6 EGNATIA/POLIGNANO
In the morning visit the archeological park of Egnatia, ancient Apulian city and centre of Messapia.
In the afternoon visit Polignano, Domenico Modugno’s birthplace. Here there is the possibility of a boat tour.
Day 7 TARANTO
In the morning visit Taranto, ancient Greek colony, today known for the MARTA Archeological Museum with Greek, Roman and Apulian collections.
End of tour.
