3-day tour in the heart of Salento, discovering the Apulian art and the history in a weekend.
We will visit the most important centers such as Lecce, Gallipoli, Galatina, Santa Maria di Leuca and Otranto and we will admire the splendid Baroque of Lecce. The itinerary runs along stretches of coast and inland, passing from the crystalline sea to the warm colors of the earth and the olive trees. You will have the opportunity to appreciate a land rich in history, art and crafts in the company of your group of friends.
1 DAY - LECCE:
Arrival in Lecce in the early afternoon and guided tour in the company of a local guide who will talk about the beauty and history of a city with an important past, with the presence of testimonies from Roman times to the Baroque age. Walking through the historic center means admiring splendid noble palaces, the Duomo, the Basilica of Santa Croce, the church of Sant’Irene, the Castle of Charles V and seeing, in the heart of the main square of Sant’Oronzo, the Roman amphitheater. Lecce is also famous for its papier-mâché handicraft and it will not be difficult to visit some shops to appreciate a truly ancient tradition.
At the end check in hotel ****, dinner and overnight stay.
DAY 2 - GALATINA, GALLIPOLI, SANTA MARIA DI LEUCA:
Breakfast, meeting with the guide and departure for Galatina. The city is known for the splendid Basilica of the '300 dedicated to Saint Catherine of Alexandria, built by the Orsini del Balzo family in Gothic-Romanesque style. The Basilica preserves inside valuable frescoes that make it second only to the Basilica of San Francesco D’Assisi. An unmissable stop is the tasting of the "pasticciotto" in a pastry shop in the city.
Transfer to Gallipoli. Free lunch or in restaurant.
Following a guided tour of the ancient village of Gallipoli, located on a small peninsula connected to the city by an Aragonese bridge, which houses churches and monuments of an interesting past history.
At the end, before returning to Lecce, walk at sunset to Santa Maria di Leuca, to admire, from the square of the Basilica of Santa Maria di Finibus Terrae, the panorama of the coast where the Ionian sea meet the Adriatic sea.
Return to hotel, dinner and overnight.
DAY 3 - OTRANTO:
After breakfast check-out, meeting with the guide and moving to Otranto for a guided tour of the easternmost city of Italy, where you can admire the first Italian sunrise.
The city of Otranto is characterized by a beautiful historic center, in fact it has been included among the most beautiful villages in Italy, for its narrow streets and alleys that all flow towards the sea. During the visit you will admire the Cathedral, a true jewel of Romanesque art with the splendid mosaic covering the entire floor, the Aragonese Castle, the Porta Alfonsina and finally walking along the ancient fortified walls you will appreciate the beauty of the crystal clear sea of ??Otranto .
