DESCRIPTION

The guided tour of Alberobello winds through the 2 ancient districts of Aia Piccola and Rione Monti and represent the only urban agglomeration made up of Trulli. The trulli, declared UNESCO sites since 1996, are an important example of rural architecture that still survives over time. The story of the birth of Alberobello, which dates back to the 16th century as a settlement, is quite particular and tells of the ability and construction skills of the peasants to build houses, even if precarious, using limestone. During the guided tour you will be able to admire the trulli up close, understand the construction techniques and enter one of them. The view on the panoramic terrace of the Rione Aia Piccola with its expanse of conical roofs is enchanting, to admire the symbols painted on the roofs and pinnacles. The pinnacles are placed on the cones of the trulli, made by hand and using lime, and represent specific symbols (ornamental, magical, pagan, Christian, primitive), each with a particular function: to protect the family, fight the evil eye or pray some deity in order to get a good harvest. At the end of the visit it is possible to organize a tasting
